Ford upped the ante significantly with the Falcon XW GT introduced in May 1969, replacing the trusty 302 V8 used in the outgoing XT GT model with the 351 cubic inch (5.8 litre) Windsor V8, resulting in a power boost from 230 to 290HP (217kW).
With bigger brakes, a taller final drive ratio of 3.25:1, a huge 164 litre fuel tank and suspension modifications to handle the extra power and torque, the XW was the ultimate grand tourer of its day. XW GTs were easily distinguished by their bold side stripes, unique 'Superoo' front mudguard logos, blacked out bonnet with scoop and their exposed bonnet pins.
