The Ford Mustang was in an instant classic, pioneering a whole new market segment - the personal sports coupe - that was even named after the car in honour of its success, this type of vehicle being dubbed a ?pony car?.
Based on Falcon underpinnings, the team led by Lee Iacocca managed to create a stylish and sporty car that could be tailored to the owner's specifications through a wide range of options - Mustangs could be had with a relatively tame six-cylinder engine and automatic gearbox to make the perfect boulevard cruiser, right through to a powerful V8 engine and manual shifter, ready for the weekend races or drag strip. In addition to the coupe, a convertible variant was a popular option, particularly in sunnier climates like California and Florida and these are now particularly sought after.
Although many tried to imitate the Mustang, it remained the market leader and is still the most popular American car of the era amongst enthusiasts today, making ownership of the 1965 Mustang Convertible offered here a safe bet as well as a fantastic experience.
