1926 Buick '6' Tourer

Production of Buick cars dates back to July 1904 but it was under the reign of Billy Durant, who took over the company on the 1st of November that year, that Buick really began to flourish and by the late 1920s was considered one of America's finest car makers. For the 1928 model year, the Buick range consisted of two models - the Series 115 Standard Six or the Series 120 Master Six - each powered by an overhead-valve straight six driving through a three-speed gearbox. The chassis was a conventional affair, with a wheelbase of either 114-inches or 120-inches, although the Standard Six now had a double-drop frame with deeper side channels for added strength and Lovejoy hydraulic shock absorbers improved the ride of all 1928 models. Styling was revised, with a new-look radiator cowling, smoother wings and thinner windscreen pillars and customers could choose between various roadsters, tourers, sedans or coupes - indeed, the Standard Six alone came with no less than seven factory body styles catalogued. Wooden-spoked artillery-type wheels were standard although Buffalo wire wheels were an option, while new Wolverine bumper bars were also standardised across the range. Inside, the gearchange was changed to an H-pattern, the steering column could be adjusted and the dash boasted dials for engine temperature and fuel levels.
