Description

Quite possibly the most successful and popular sports car to hail from Britain is the evergreen MGB, an affordable, practical yet thoroughly enjoyable two-seater that still has tremendous appeal today. To many enthusiasts, the Mark II MGB Roadster offers the best package for this classic British sports car, bringing with it a much-needed full synchromesh gearbox, an alternator instead of the dynamo plus better electrics. A number of changes were necessitated by new safety legislation, including a collapsible steering column and padded dashboard. Further changes in 1969 included new Rostyle wheels, seats and a matt-black front grille and for 1970 a redesigned hood, smaller 15.5-inch diameter steering wheel and vastly improved heater made the MGB an even better proposition. Apart from minor detail changes, the Mark II retained the purity of the original design but was more enjoyable to drive and easier to live with. A number of MGB's were assembled at the BMC (and later British Leyland) plant at Zetland, including the example on offer here, between 1962 and 1973.
