1976 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 'Targa' Coupe

Few cars can lay claim to the remarkable heritage Porsche enjoys with its 911, a model first introduced in 1963 to replace the 356 and still with us, albeit in a rather altered form, today. One of the best sports cars ever conceived, Porsche has been continuously developing and honing the 911 concept but each succeeding generation was rightly regarded as being amongst the finest driver's car of the day. For 1976, the Carrera 3 was announced, with a full 3-litres in capacity giving a significant lift in torque along with the switch from mechanical to Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection for better engine reliability and greater flexibility. Another major change was the adoption of a fully galvanized chassis to better fight corrosion and better sound deadening. Since 1967, Porsche had made the 911 available with a targa-top roof to give the best of both worlds - open air motoring without the pitfalls normally associated with dodgy convertible roof mechanisms and on the Carrera 3 the targa model was 'blacked-out' in keeping with the lack of chrome elsewhere on the bodywork. Porsche fans have begun to recognise the true worth of the Seventies 3-litre 911s, offering great performance, looks and reliability in addition to exceptionally good value - a situation bound to change as prices of early 911s continue to skyrocket.
