Resuming civilian production of pick-up trucks when the war ended in 1945, Chevrolet's all-new Advance Design range was introduced in 1948 and was, in fact, the first new post-war model of any description by General Motors. The Advance Design saw modern styling and a significantly stronger cab structure built with "Unisteel Battleship" construction methods. The cab was larger, offering improved passenger space - three could comfortably sit across the bench seat - along with greater glass area for better visibility. Inside there were numerous improvements, including full instrumentation, better ventilation and a glovebox. The half-tonne utility, designated the 3100-series, rode on a 116-inch wheelbase and was powered by the 216.5-cid six-cylinder engine. The Advance Design remained in production essentially unchanged until 1955, forming the mainstay of Chevrolet's light commercial range and the pick-up with DeLuxe cab (with additional rear corner windows) is certainly the most desirable model today, making an ideal promotional vehicle.
