Redolent of the Rock 'n' Roll era, this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is equipped with the legendary small-block V8 engine first introduced in 1955 and designed by Chevrolet's Chief Engineer, Ed Cole, and his team. With five main bearings, overhead valves operated by pushrods and individual rockers, the 265-cid engine was initially offered in two states of tune, developing either 162bhp or 180bhp, before being expanded to 283-cid in 1957. In the case of the fuel-injected 283-cid version, the Chevrolet V8 was the first production motor to developing one horsepower for each cubic inch and proved a winner on the track, cleaning up in AAA and NASCAR events around the country. Along with a soundly engineered chassis, the 1955-1957 Chevrolets also offered an abundance of style, the basic shape both well proportioned and beautifully detailed. Three basic lines were made available, ranging from the base One-Fifty, the mid-series Two-Ten and the upmarket Bel Air, with plusher interior trim and distinctive exterior brightwork. The rocker sills, roof and window outlines and edge of the fins all received bright metal moldings while the 1957 facelift saw new front and rear ends, with an oval-shaped grille and a lower, sleeker appearance overall. A '57 Chevrolet remains one of the most desirable of all American cars from the chrome age and a rare find.
