By the late Twenties Chevrolet had well and truly established itself as the most serious competitor to Ford and finally overtook its main rival in the sales race in 1927. The Superior badge applied to earlier Chevrolets was dropped in favour of the new Capitol name and the styling altered accordingly, with a reshaped radiator shell, bullet headlamps and full crown fenders. Mechanically, the Capitol Series AA retained the trusty 171-cid in-line four but featured both a new Remy distributor and Carter carburettor. Total horsepower was again rated at 26, developed at a peak of 2000 rpm and the power delivered through a three-speed floor-mounted selective sliding transmission. Chevrolet made sure their 1927 offerings came with an impressively long list of standard equipment, including full instrumentation (speedo, ammeter, oil pressure gauge), dash light, choke pull, electric horn and headlight dimmer. Advertised as ?The Most Beautiful Chevrolet in History?, over 1.7 million units were built in 1927 and Ford's changeover from the Model T to the Model A ensured the Bow Tie won the coveted number one spot that year.
