One of the most flamboyantly styled automobiles in history, the 1959 Cadillac Convertible has gone down in history as the automotive equivalent of Marilyn Monroe - drop dead gorgeous, totally over the top and never to be repeated. Standard equipment for all 1959 Cadillacs included power steering, power brakes, Hydra-matic automatic transmission and a new, improved 390-cid V8 developing 325 hp at 4800rpm thanks to a four-barrel carburettor and dual exhausts. The 1959 Cadillac DeVille came with additional moldings and nameplates, along with power windows and two-way power seats in addition to the long line of luxury equipment found on the standard 6200 range, such as power brakes, power steering and an electric antenna. An automotive icon, the '59 Cadillac has inspired countless paintings and sculptures, been immortalised in film and celebrated in numerous industrial design exhibitions around the world. One of the most sought-after collectors cars from the 1950s, the '59 Cadillac perfectly embodies the era of excess.
