The radical fourth-generation Camaro made its debut as a 1993 model to general acclaim, with the aerodynamic body initially available only as a coupe. With many of the compound curved panels formed from molded composite plastics, the new Camaro certainly looked futuristic but underneath retained the traditional front engine/rear drive layout, albeit with a revised chassis structure to improve rigidity, along with new front suspension. The Camaro was available in just two models, either a 3.4-litre V6 with a five-speed manual or the V8-powered Z28 with the Borg-Warner six-speed gearbox. A four-speed automatic transmission was a popular option on both cars. The list of standard equipment was impressive, with driver and passenger side airbags, anti-lock brakes, premium sound system and GM's PASS-KEY II anti-theft system. The air conditioning system came with a first - it was charged with non-ozone depleting R-134a refrigerant. Underneath, the Camaro had new front suspension with short and long control-arm set-up and the V6 motor developed 160 bhp at 4600 rpm, with sequential fuel injection. Total production for 1993 was 39,103, the low number due mostly to the late introduction of the new model, and well kept, low mileage cars offer great performance and driving pleasure at an affordable price.
