Established in 1926 as an upmarket, six-cylinder Chevrolet, the 1928 model Pontiac New Series 6-28 had a revised radiator shell, both taller, narrower and deeper than on previous models, along with generally lower body lines. Mechanically, a new cross-flow radiator was introduced, a new Carter updraft carburettor and larger intake manifold helped increase the power output of the L-head six. The frame, with its 110-inch wheelbase, was all-new, as was the front axle, internal front wheel brakes, AC fuel filter and fuel pump. Other notable developments included a dash-mounted fuel gauge and thermostat. Pontiacs built after June 1928 had a few minor technical changes, including a Marvel carburettor, stronger Jaxon 10-spoke artillery wheels and new rear axle ratio. A new body style was also offered alongside the usual Roadsters, Coupes and Sedans - the Sport Phaeton (or Tourer) by Stewart, as found on the car offered here. Options included front and rear bumper bars, disc wheels and single side-mount spare wheel.
