The 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 remains one of the most iconic Porsche models ever built, with top examples today selling for close to $500,000 on the world market. As well as helping Porsche win the production sports car championship in Europe, it also set a fashion trend with its distinctive 'ducks tail' rear spoiler and graphic side-stripes and enthusiasts have sought to copy its looks using early model 911 models ever since, happily living with their relatively minimal comforts and the sometimes cantankerous mechanical fuel injection or carburettors, depending on the donor model. However rising values of these early cars have spawned a new trend, which is the retro-conversion of later 'big-bumper' 911 models built from 1974 to 1989 to the earlier RS look. The advantages of using the later cars include a fully galvanized body shell, a bulletproof and daily-drivable engine with electronic ignition and fuel injection, standard air conditioning, the availability of a sunroof and other creature comforts making these cars potential 'daily drivers'.
