Facing stiff competition from Chevrolet's new Camaro, the Mustang was restyled for 1967 with a longer, wider body that nonetheless retained the same general styling themes as the original 1964 model. The radiator grille was enlarged and the rear panel made concave, while underneath the front suspension was completely revised to improve ride and handling. The range of engines offered remained largely the same as for 1966, with the classic small-block 289-cid V8 still the most popular choice of performance-oriented buyers. Inside the '67 Mustang boasted a new dash with a host of new options. Once again, three different body shapes were sold, these being the hardtop coupe, the fastback coupe and the convertible. Always great to drive, the Mustang also proved remarkably successful on the race track, with the likes of Norm Beechey, Bob Jane, Pete Geoghegan and others dominating touring car events in the 1960s. More recently, Mustangs have been filling the grids of historic touring car racing and have a proven track record.
