Post World War 2, the British Army looked to update their light armoured reconnaissance vehicles and commissioned Daimler to design and build the Ferret in 1949. It featured several advancements over older designs such as the Dingo, which was also Daimler designed. The Ferret a larger 'fighting compartment' and could house a machine gun turret, while six grenade launchers were fitted to the hill. The Ferret was produced between 1952 and 1971, with approximately 4409 built, and were used by many of the Commonwealth countries for general reconnaissance duties over several decades.
