The famous British motorcycle manufacturer, BSA, introduced the two-stroke Bantam range in 1948. Employing unitary construction it was originally sold in a 125cc format but by the end of production in 1971 it had grown to 175cc. Interestingly the design was gained from Germany's DKW as war repatriations and both the USA (Harley-Davidson) and USSR (Moskva) released bikes using the same base design. The D14/4 was produced for only two years, in 1968 and '69, and came with an improved 4-speed gearbox and slight increase in power, to 12.6bhp from 175cc (up from 10bhp).
