By the eighties the Mini may have been surpassed in popularity by more modern small-car designs, but the classic-shape soldiered on with a host of mechanical and interior updates to keep its relevance as cheap, fun transport with a surprising amount of interior space. The Mark IV, introduced in 1976 soldiered through to 1984, incorporating a front rubber-mounted sub-frame and improvements to the frame bushings, while the Mk V that ran from '84 to 1990 received larger brake discs, 12 inch wheels and flares amongst other detail improvements. It was available from the factory only in saloon form with the 998cc 'four', though a version of the legendary 1275cc capacity was re-introduced in 1990, with production continuing until 2000.
