Announced in October 1977, the HZ Holden series was Holden's last full-size car before the launch of the European derived Commodore. The HZ was the fourth facelift of the HQ-series base with minor exterior revisions to the body, including a new grille, badges and hubcaps. More significantly, Holden adopted the Radial Tuned Suspension that was already in use in the smaller Torana. This brought a far more modern ride/handling balance than in earlier full-size Holdens and would subsequently be adapted to the Commodore. The HZ was also the last Holden sedan platform to offer Utility and Van body options- it would take the VN Commodore before the Ute would make a return, making these HZs the last of the old school Holden Utes.
