BSA's 499cc B50, introduced in 1971, was also known as the 'Gold Star'- a name that bestowed many of BSA's top bikes in earlier, more successful times. There were three versions of the B50- the T (Trail), MX (Motorcross) and SS (Street Scrambler). 2,789 of the SS were produced between 1971 and BAS's last real production year of 1973, though in 1974 some leftover B50s were marketed as Triumphs. They were all powered by a 34bhp OHV 'Single' with a 10:1 compression ratio, and capable of around 90mph (144km/h).
