The BSA Spitfire was launched in 1963 as a performance bike, powered by a 654cc OHV twin cylinder engine. By 1966, with parent BSA running into financial trouble, their lineup was rationalised, though an updated Spitfire survived the cull. This A65 version included BSA's newly adopted 12 volt electrics along with a twin-downtube steel frame that utilised Girling shocks. The motor received two large Amal carburettors complete with velocity stacks. These proved difficult to kick-start, so for 1967 a less controversial Amal setup was assumed. Engine outputs were just over 50bhp.
