Jawa motorcycles have been in production since 1929, when Frantisek Janecek established the company in Prague, then in Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic). It is perhaps best known as a builder of fine racing bikes with a particular emphasis on speedway, dirt-track and ice racing, where their early 4-stroke engines were nicely suited. Interrupted by the Second World War it took until 1964 for Jawa to produce its millionth bike, but by 1976 2 million had been produced. Helping them reach this milestone was the 1974 introduction of the 350cc Type 634. This incorporated a 349cc twin-cylinder motor with a 2-stroke cycle, carried over from the utilitarian sixties Jawa bikes.
