A now-legendary Triumph nameplate, the original 6T Thunderbird motorbike was introduced in 1949 and carried on in its first incarnation until 1966. It used a development of its predecessor's 'Speed Twin' parallel twin motor, which was bored from 500cc to 650cc in order to generate more appeal from the American market. It produced 34bhp in this form and could beat 90mph. In later years Triumph returned the Thunderbird name to production when it felt a bike was worthy, and one can purchase a brand-new 1600cc Thunderbird even in 2011- a respectful nod to its past.
