Ford introduced the Torino nameplate in 1968 as a luxury version of the intermediate-sized Fairlane, taking advantage of the fresh exterior and interior styling released for the 1968 model year. The top-line specification was the Torino GT which was effectively an upgraded Fairlane 500 and was available as a 2-door hardtop, 'Sportsroof' (fastback style) or in a convertible form. Befitting its sporting credentials, the Torino GT came standard with the 302ci V8, along with bucket seats, full carpets and extra badging.
For 1969 further detail refinements were made to the styling and the new 351ci Windsor joined the big-block 390. Optionally available was the monster 428ci in a range of tunes.
