Description
1959 is seen as a grand year amongst Cadillac fans, for it took GM's most opulent division until the '59 model year to bring their stylistic response to the Chrysler Corporations '57 'Forward Look' model series. The result was the fifth-generation 'Series 62', now known officially as the 'Series 6200'.This latest Cadillac's profile combined elegance with excess, as dominant tail-fins protruded far beyond the 130 inch wheelbase, while the front-ends seemed lower, wider and more aggressive than its predecessors. Under the bold re-style an up-rated 390ci (up from 365) V8 pushed out 325bhp, or 345bhp with the more exclusive Eldorado specification, while sedan, coupe and convertible body-styles remained available. The fifth-generation cars survived into 1960 with minor body styling revisions, before being replaced in 1961 with yet another update.
