Description
The Charger was a landmark car in Australian motoring history, born of the muscle car era, blooded on the local race tracks by the likes of Leo Geoghegan and now, with the numbers of surviving cars dwindling each year, more collectible than ever. In March 1973 Chrysler introduced the face-lifted VJ range of Valiants, with a new grille, round headlamps, different tail lamps and the Charger range was reduced to just three models - the base level, XL and 770. The R/T package was no longer available, as Chrysler turned away from outright performance and focused more on creature comforts and safety, although the VJ Charger could still be ordered with the E48 Six Pack engine option to restore some of the urge and there was also a Sports Pack for those wanting to stand out from the crowd. Inside, new trim patterns and sundry minor changes were made to improve the interior. The VJ range remained in production until 1975 and just over 10,000 were built.
