Description
The Australian-built LTD was released in 1973, effectively replacing the imported Galaxie as the top-line model in the local Ford range. Known as the P5, it was initially based on the ZF then ZG Fairlanes, albeit with a wheelbase stretched even further. Available only as a four-door, a two-door hardtop version known as the Landau was released alongside the LTD. Both were given 351ci Cleveland engines as standard with a three-speed automatic the sole transmission option. Fully optioned with retractable headlights, power windows and steering, air-conditioning and electric windows, the P5 LTD was the perfect choice for the patriotic Australian executive. For the 1976 P6 series, the Landau was dropped due to poor sales, however LTD continued as the high-end luxury staple of the Ford range through to 2007. Today, early examples are rare and sought-after with their 351ci engines, ample space and luxurious cabins which make them mechanically reliable and effective cruisers.
