Description
An iconic Italian sports car, the Alfa Romeo Spider was introduced in 1966 as the Duetto and immortalised the following year by Dustin Hoffman in the cult film The Graduate, to the extent that it adopted the movie's name in recognition of its starring role. The Spider had lovely, timeless styling by Italian design studio Pininfarina that still looks fresh today - the only major change made during the production life of the model was the restyled Kamm-type tail section. Originally equipped with a five-speed gearbox, disc brakes all round and lively 1600cc twin-cam engine, the motor was enlarged to 2-litres for 1971, providing a noticeable boost in torque. The Alfa Romeo Spider was an enduring sales success for the Italian marque, with an amazing 82,500 examples completed by the time production finally ceased in the 1990s. Later models like this one benefited from less temperamental fuel injection and front and rear spoilers. The Alfa Romeo Spider is an affordable, eminently practical Italian classic sports car that combines sexy styling, nimble handling and ample performance and will bring real enjoyment to the fortunate new owner.
