Description
The GL 1100 series was the second generation of the luxurious Honda Goldwing Touring motorcycle first introduced in 1974. Released for the 1980 model year, the GL1100 was essentially an improved version of the GL 1000 that preceded it; albeit with a larger 1085cc version of the previous 999cc flat-four. Electronic ignition was also added along with air-adjustable suspension. The GL 1100 came in two flavours the Standard version and the Interstate, which offered more touring-friendly accessories such as saddlebags, a rear storage compartment and- for the first time on the Goldwing- a fairing. For 1981 production moved out of Japan and into Ohio in the US, adding credibility to the bike in that most lucrative of markets. Goldwings of all generations are today revered for their touring ability and comfort, and are well supported for parts and on the club circuit.
