The BMW R60 was a 600cc, two-cylinder 'boxer' motorcycle first introduced in 1956. With built-in mounting points for a sidecar these were seen as utilitarian, robust bikes with their tubular steel frame construction. The R60/2 came on-stream in 1960 with a 22kW version of the engine (R60: 21kW). Its shaft drive was quite unique for the time, with the driveshaft working in an enclosed oil bath and it ran with a dry clutch. Today these bikes are much sought-after as attractive, effective long-distance tourers.
