Description
In 1941, Ford introduced an updated model range, although its tenure would be interrupted by World War Two. This saw production halted in February, 1942 as Ford converted to war-time production. It would only recommence in July 1945 for the '46 model year. The latest cars were similar under the skin to the 1942 models, though the front-end styling was modernised with a proud, horizontal chrome radiator grille. Three trim levels were offered (Special, De Luxe and Super De Luxe) along with three engines; a 226-cid 'L-Head' six along with 221-cid and 239-cid versions of the legendary 'Flathead' V8. As was the norm, Ford provided several bodies for their Forties car, with 2 and 4-door sedans, coupes, convertibles, pickups, utilities and station wagons all on offer. Production would continue through to 1948, when the substantially revised 1949 model-year Fords took over as Ford's mainstream model. Interestingly, Australian production followed American lines, with local examples of the Ford built in 1941-42, then 1946-48.
