Description

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) is the officially designated performance vehicle partner of former Australian manufacturer, Holden. Established in 1987 and based in Clayton, Victoria, the company modified Holden models such as the standard-wheelbase Commodore, long-wheelbase Caprice and commercial Ute for domestic and export sale. The HSV GTS is a full-size high-performance sedan that was based on the mainstream Commodore. The original GTS was introduced in Australia in 1992 with the VP series, and variants followed across the subsequent VR, VS, VT, VX, Y-series, E-series and Gen-F. With the VX HSV strove to differentiate it more from the standard Holden offering, introducing a introduced more distinguishing bodykit and interior. This series also saw the LS1 engine output increase by 5 kW to 300kW at 6000 rpm and torque was 510 Nm at 4800 rpm. Differences from the LS1 included ported cylinder heads, larger throttle body, revised camshaft, remapped ECU, titanium valve spring retainers, upgraded valve springs and valves. The compression ratio was also lowered slightly to 9.95:1 and the engine ran MAFless. In HSV models, this engine was used with a higher than standard 3.91:1 final drive ratio.
