An iconic Italian sports car, the Alfa Romeo Spider was introduced in 1966 as the Duetto and was immortalised the following year by Dustin Hoffman in the film, The Graduate. The Spider has lovely, timeless styling by Italian design studio Pininfarina that still looks fresh today - the only major change made during the production life of the model was the restyled squarer Kamm-type tail section. Originally equipped with a five-speed gearbox, disc brakes all round and lively 1600cc twin-cam engine, the motor was enlarged to 2-litres for 1971, providing a noticeable boost in torque. Later cars evolved with more and more luxury appointments, impact bumpers and bodykits, but the essence of the beautiful little sports car remained. The Alfa Romeo Spider was an enduring sales success for the Italian marque, with an amazing 110,000 examples completed by the time production finally ceased in 1993. The Alfa Romeo Spider is an affordable, eminently practical Italian classic sports car that combines sexy styling, nimble handling and ample performance, and will bring real enjoyment to the fortunate new owner.
