The Series 3 Land Rovers continued the great traditions set by the Series 1 and 2s that preceded it. Introduced in 1971 it was offered in three body-styles from the factory, with two and four door wagons and a utility tray the options. Around 440,000 Series 3 Landies were built during its reign, with production finishing up in 1985. The Series 3 carried over the wing-mounted headlights introduced during the Series 2A, but the biggest change to the appearance was the adoption of a plastic grille in place of the metal one used before. Both 2.25 litre Petrol and 2.5 litre Diesel four-cylinder engines were offered, along with a 2.6 litre six and 3.5 V-8, matched to a solid, dual-range 4-speed or 5-speed manual transmission.
