Description
An absolute icon of the muscle car era, the Dodge Charger was one of the most attractively styled and brutally fast Mopar products available at the time. It was restyled for 1971’s third-generation Charger model with a semi-fastback roofline featuring a flush rear window, a split front grille, an integrated rear boot spoiler, bonnet power bulge, side stripes and paint blackouts. The interior sported high back bucket seats and a Rallye instrument cluster. The base model came with a 225-ci slant six, hardly capable of getting the pulse racing, but performance-oriented enthusiasts opted for the now-iconic Magnum 440 V8 engine with four-barrel carburettor, delivering 375 hp and 480 lb/ft of torque. It was usually mated to a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, though a four-speed manual was a rare option. Not often seen on our roads compared to the ubiquitous Mustang, these Dodge Chargers are rapidly gaining in popularity among collectors.
