The Puma Clubman was conceived and designed by former Englishman John Karnon, after a lifetime in the motor trade. He began in 1997 at his home in Adelaide and from the first prototype, has built in excess of 54 chassis for customers, the majority of which are now on the road. The Puma Clubman has evolved over time with different bodywork, added luxuries, ever more sophisticated mechanicals and increasing performance. Early Pumas were built with Nissan SR20DET S13 engines with later cars using Nissan SR20DET S14 and SR20DET S15. The S15 engine uses a six-speed gear box. In 2014, Karnon sold Puma Cars and it relocated to Wamboin (NSW), though initially certain chassis and component production remained in South Australia.
