The Ford Crestline was produced in the United States between 1952 to 1954. The Crestline was introduced as the top trim level of the 1952 Ford range, above the intermediate-level Customline and base level Mainline. Crestlines were only offered with a 239ci “flathead” V8 engine but were available in Victoria two-door coupe, Sunliner two-door convertible and four-door Ranch Wagon body styles. For 1953 Crestline was updated with minor styling and trim changes. Refinement of the specifications was the main change, with power-assisted brakes and steering available for the first time. Other changes included a two-inch wider track and a k-bar frame with five cross-members. In styling terms, the changes included the centre grille bullet which lost its ring and was now flanked by vertical black stripes, while the corner lights were changed to rectangular rather than circular. All 1953 Fords also featured commemorative steering wheels marking the company’s 50th anniversary.
The Sunliner model name went on to be used by Ford for many of its full-sized convertibles through the second half of the 1950s and 1960s.
