1995 Jaguar XJ6 X300 3.2 Saloon

Jaguar’s XJ6 (X300) was manufactured by the iconic British marque between 1994 and 1997 and was the first produced entirely under Ford ownership. It was an evolution of the outgoing XJ40, with the design of the X300 placing much emphasis on improved build quality, improved reliability and a return to traditional Jaguar styling elements. Under the bonnet was the choice of a 3.2 litre, 4.0 litre or 4.0 litre supercharged in-line six-cylinder engine, much revised from the units in the XJ40 with electronic engine management now a feature. On the XJ6 base cars, aluminium alloy wheels, leather upholstery and air conditioning were all extra-cost options. Standard transmission was either a ZF four-speed automatic gearbox or the rare Getrag five-speed manual. Aesthetically, the X300 saw the mostly flat bonnet of the XJ40 replaced with a fluted, curvaceous design that accentuated the four separate round headlamps. Rear wings were reshaped to accommodate the new wrap-around rear light clusters. Also, the separate black-rubber bumper bars of the XJ40 were gone, replaced with fully integrated body-coloured bumpers. The interior of the X300 was similar to that found in the XJ40, with some revisions such as the seats being updated to have a more rounded profile, the wood trim was updated with bevelled edges and the steering wheel was redesigned. The X300 variant of the long-lived Jaguar XJ saloon certainly continued the lineage and grand traditions of this most accomplished of British luxury cars, and today makes a stylish mode of daily transport or a great family weekend cruiser.
