1993 Holden HSV VR Clubsport Sedan

Established in 1987, Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) is and continues to be Holden’s officially-designated performance vehicle partner. Since its inception, it has produced a series of low-volume performance models across the Holden range, though most commonly based on the Commodore platform. One of HSV’s best-known badges is the Clubsport, which debuted as a VN-model in 1990 and continued through to the Gen-F of 2017. As the performance brand’s entry-level model, it’s also its biggest-seller. The VR-model HSV VR Clubsport was introduced in 1993 and was produced until 1995 and was significant because it marked the first time HSV models wore bodywork distinct from their more mundane Commodore cousins. This was the result of the appointment of award-winning global car designer, Ian Callum, who as design chief for TWR (HSV’s parent company) was able to give the VR series HSV models a more cohesive and stylish body look. Upgrades to the 5 litre V8 lifted output to 185kW and both ABS and IRS became standard. Only 1117 VR Clubsports were produced, considerably less than later models. All Clubsports continue to be popular among Australian muscle car enthusiasts, and interest is now growing in the VR model.
