1995 Nissan 300ZX 'Targa' 25th Anniversary Coupe

Launched in 1989, Nissan’s Z32 300ZX was the fourth generation of the famous Z-car, a completely fresh design featuring an all-aluminium 24-valve V6 engine displacing 3-litres, a decent handling chassis boasting five-link independent rear suspension and radical new bodywork that retained the signature targa roof.  Although several markets received a twin-turbo version of the V6, Australian buyers were limited to a 168 kW naturally-aspirated version of this sweet revving unit, paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions.  The Z32 was packed with technology under the bonnet and a long list of luxury features inside; electronic climate control air conditioning, central locking, electronic remote control on the mirrors, power windows, halogen headlamps, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, handbrake lever and gear knob gave the car a quality feel in keeping with the hefty price tag.  Celebrating the Z-car’s 25th birthday, Nissan launched a Silver Anniversary version of the Z32 for the US and Australian markets, both developed by Kiwi Rod Millen, who was responsible for developing and running Nissan’s IMSA programme in North America.  The Australian model retained the naturally-aspirated V6 found in the standard version, with aerodynamic enhancements like a unique front air dam and splitter, high rear deck lid, rear valance and louvered bonnet complemented by stiffer Millen-designed suspension (with progressive rate shocks and adjustable anti-roll bars), lowered ride height and unique 17-inch AVS alloy rims.  Originally priced at an eye-watering list price of $92,995 back in 1995, Nissan Australia is understood to have sold just 122 of these Anniversary cars, of which 34 were finished in Sapphire Blue, the most popular colour alongside White Pearl and a 53/69 breakdown between manual and automatic cars respectively.
