Manufactured in France between 1959 and 1961, the Velo Vap was a typical moped made by the Société VAP, a manufacturer renowned for supplying clip-on cycle and moped engines since 1949 and part of parent company ABG, a major electrical component concern. Named after the designers Verot and Andriot Pierre, VAP’s Velo Vap was a competitor for the popular VeloSoleX, boasting a more powerful engine capable of ascending hills without pedalling, but the high price contributed to the short production run. Mounted above the front wheel, the roller-driver 50cc unit, the Velo Vap was capable of cruising at between 30-35 km/h according to contemporary literature.
