Description
Yamaha’s first three-wheeled ATV, the YT125 Tri-Moto series debuted in 1979 powered by a two-stroke engine with an “Autolube” separate oil supply system, CDI ignition and fed by a Mikuni VM20 carburettor. Featuring a snorkel air intake and balloon-type tyres for all-terrain traction, the Tri-Moto’s chassis featured telescopic forks, a drum front brake and mechanical discs at the rear and the bodywork was finished in Yamaha’s signature Competition Yellow colour scheme. Designed to be a durable workhorse and the ultimate recreational vehicle, the YT125 spawned a long line of three and four-wheeled ATVs. Yamaha even took on Honda with a factory-backed race programme headed by Bob Oliver in 1982, with ace rider Broc Glover competing on the new POS-83 racer. With interest in vintage MX bikes growing every year, ATVs like the Yamaha Tri-Moto are similarly gaining popularity with collectors.
