Developed in conjunction with Tickford Vehicle Engineering, Ford marked the 25th anniversary of the original Falcon GT by launching a GT version of the then current EB Series II Fairmont Ghia in 1992. The aim was to build a luxury performance sedan in the spirit of the original XR GT rather than a race-bred homologation special like the legendary GT-HOs. Three colour choices were available (blue, black and red) and Ford offered the EB GT in both automatic and manual guises, using locally-sourced BTR boxes with four or five ratios respectively. Exterior enhancements included a full body kit, lowered ride height and distinctive five-spoke alloys while the interior added two-tone grey leather upholstery, Momo leather-wrapped steering wheel and a Burl walnut facia for a more luxurious feel. Under the bonnet was a fully-imported Windsor 5.0 litre V8 with Ford SVO ‘GT40’ heads pumping out 200kW, resulting in a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.3 seconds flat and a quarter-mile sprint of 15.2 seconds. Costing $62,000 when new, the only options were a sunroof, CD player and Deluxe pack consisting of paint and fabric protection. Produced from November 1992 until April 1993, total output was 265 units including; 10 pre-production cars, 240 earmarked for Australia and 15 exported to New Zealand. Almost thirty years on, the individually-numbered EB Falcon GTs are now regarded as a modern classics and, undervalued for so many years, prices are now on the rise.
