One of the most enduring of automotive legends is the Cobra, created by Texan Carroll Shelby in the early ‘60s by combining the US muscle of the Ford small-block V8 engine with a suitably modified English sports car chassis. The original 289 Cobra was a winner both on the street and track, taking on - and beating - Europe's best in the mid- ‘60s. The original small-block V8 was later replaced by the 427ci big-block and, with the bodywork suitably pumped-up, the Cobra delivered shattering performance.
