Ford’s second iteration of the Zephyr, which made its debut in 1956, was one of the most important models of the day. Indeed, Ford Australia had planned to transition from local assembly to full manufacture beginning with an uprated Mark 2A Zephyr, but finally the lighter, cheaper US Falcon was chosen. In Australia, the Mark 2 carried a three per cent price premium over the Holden FC Special but offered almost 10 per cent more performance and a sleeker streamline.
