The Ford Torino was produced for the North American market between 1968 and 1976. Named after the city of Turin (Torino, in Italian), considered "the Italian Detroit", Ford introduced the Torino nameplate in 1968 as a luxury version of the intermediate-sized Fairlane, taking advantage of the fresh exterior and interior styling released for the 1968 model year. The top-line Torino specification was the GT which was effectively an upgraded Fairlane 500 and was available as a 2-door hardtop, 'Sportsroof' (fastback style) or in a convertible form. Befitting its sporting credentials, the Torino GT came standard with the 302ci V8, along with bucket seats, full carpets, and extra badging. A big-block 390ci V8 was available as well, and the new 351ci Windsor joined the range in 1969. Also optionally available was the monster 428ci in a range of tunes.
