Honda has long produced a most diverse range of motorcycles and the NSR250R, produced from 1987 to 1999 certainly had niche appeal. Although the company pioneered water-cooled four-stroke four-cylinder motorcycles with the fabulous Honda 750 Four, the marketing executives saw scope to take advantage of the image created by the RS250R (also known as the NSR250) race for production motorcycles. Perhaps surprisingly, the roadgoing MC21 used none of the parts found in the racers. The street-legal two-stroke 250cc 90-degree V-twin made 45 brake horsepower at 9500rpm. Nikasil-sulphur coating was used on the cylinder to reduce friction and wear – hence the ‘NS’ in NSR.
