The Lotus Exige is a British-made two-door, two-seat sports coupe made by Lotus Cars since 2000. Originally a more-hardcore coupé version of the Lotus Elise roadster, the Exige has evolved through various incarnations and special editions, which have included four cylinder and V6-engined variants. In 2004, Lotus introduced the Series 2 Exige powered by a naturally aspirated 1.8 litre 16-valve DOHC Toyota/Yamaha four-cylinder engine producing 142 kW. Five years later Lotus produced a limited-edition of the Exige S called the “Scura” (Italian for “Dark”), with a 1796cc supercharged and intercooled engine from the Exige Cup 260 with 191 kW at 8000 rpm and 236Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine featured a lightweight flywheel while the gearbox was the C64 six-speed with an aluminium casing, sports-type clutch plate and heavy-duty clutch cover. Called “Stealth” in Japan, and limited to just 35 examples worldwide, the Lotus Exige Scura came with a matte black body, Phantom Black triple stripes that ran the length of the car, carbonfibre front splitter, oil cooler inlet vanes, side air scoops and rear spoiler. Inside featured carbonfibre seats and centre console, and anodised handbrake and gear knob. The Scura also came with Launch Control, variable-slip traction control, Ohlins two-way adjustable dampers, Eibach Springs with variable-height spring platforms, and matt black lightweight forged wheels with Yokohama 048 LTS tyres. Weighing in at 925kg, the Exige Scura dispatched the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.1 seconds and was priced at $139,990 (plus on-roads) new in Australia.
