In a real ‘rags to riches’ story, Charles W Nash went from being an orphan working on a farm in Michigan to President of General Motors by 1912. Following his resignation due to a dispute with GM boss William C Durant, Nash formed his own company in 1916 and began producing cars under his own name in Kenosha, Wisconsin just two years later. The first Nashs were powered by overhead-valve sixes in a chassis featuring semi-elliptic suspension all round and Hotchkiss drive and they proved highly successful, not to mention profitable. Various improvements were carried out into the early Twenties, with a lower priced four-cylinder model introduced for 1921. From 1925 onwards Nash cars were exclusively powered by six-cylinder engines, the cheapest Light Six (previously the separate Ajax) complementing the mid-range Special Six and more powerful Advanced Six. Innovations included the addition of a seven-bearing crankshaft on both ohv sixes in 1926 and additional body styles were added to the catalogue each year. For 1928 the entry level Series 320 Standard Six was built on a 108-inch wheelbase chassis, the mid-range Series 330 Special Six on a 112.5-inch wheelbase and the Advanced Series 360 on either 121 or 127-inch wheelbase lengths. The Series 330 was available in Tourer, Sedan, Coupe, Roadster, Cabriolet or Victoria body styles, with dual side mounts optional.  The Special Six was powered by a 224-cid engine developing 52 horsepower, mated to a 3-speed sliding gear transmission with floor shift and other notable features included mechanical brakes on all four wheels and disc wheels were standard across the range. Nash cars were selling strongly in Australia by the 1920s, with a local distribution network covering each of the states and they enjoy a loyal following here today, backed by a good club network.
