The E-Class is a range of mid-sized executive cars made by German manufacturer Mercedes Benz across five generations and sold worldwide, in a variety of body and engine configurations. Historically, the E-Class is Mercedes-Benz' best-selling model, and the W210 E-Class, launched in 1995, brought the line firmly into the upper end of the mid-size luxury market. It introduced major styling changes compared to the first-generation of the E-class, including four large and distinctive oval headlights, which gave Mercedes an updated image intended to attract more younger buyers and women. The new E-class was also longer and wider, and thus offered significantly more interior room, though it was still considered mid-size. The original W124 and new W210 E-Class models were each available as a four-door sedan, five-door station wagon, two door coupe and convertible, before model proliferation saw ever more combinations and cross pollination with the smaller C-Class. The W210 E-Class was available in different markets with engines ranging from a 2 litre in-line four cylinder, through various six-cylinders, to several V8s, topping out at a 6.2 litre. Diesels were also available. Due to the E-Class's size and durability, it filled many market segments, from personal cars to taxis in many European and Middle Eastern countries, as well as the basis of special-purpose vehicles (police or ambulance) with modifications from the factory itself. In September 1994 the W210 E-class was facelifted, with styling, mechanical and quality revisions over the earlier version. The W210 was replaced by the W211 E-Class in 2002.
