The HG Kingswood was Australia’s top-selling car for 1970 and was the last of three models of the so-called ‘New Generation’ range of Holdens introduced in 1968 with the HK. The HT of 1969 was the first Holden with a plastic grille. The HG facelift on the HT was among the least changed Holdens ever, although it did see the introduction of the Australian three-speed Tri-Matic automatic transmission to supersede the two-speed Powerglide. The Kingswood, sandwiched between the entry level Belmont and the more luxurious Premier, was far and away the most popular variant in the HG Holden range.
