In 1989 Porsche made just 340 Club Sport editions of its Carrera 3.2 coupe, 53 of which were right-hand-drive cars for the UK market. The M637 option code is therefore much rarer than the highly esteemed 1973 2.7 RS, of which 1580 were produced. The intent behind the 1989 Club Sport precisely paralleled that of its illustrious predecessor: the embodiment of Porsche’s Rennsport philosophy, which in some respects may be understood as less equals more. Fastidious weight saving constitutes much of what makes any Club Sport special. Shedding air-conditioning, fog lights, rear windscreen wiper, headlight washers, sound system, back seat and undersealing, inter alia, this CS brought a remarkable 70kg (think: one adult passenger) weight saving, at 1160. The full-size spare wheel was swapped for a space-saver. Even the badging on the engine cover was deleted. Additionally, the blueprinted engine (with sodium-filled exhaust valves) makes a little more power to propel this gorgeous, rare Porsche from zero to 60 miles per hour (97km/h) in 5.1 seconds and on to a V-max of 248km/h. The Getrag 5-speed gearbox features shorter throws. This is undoubtedly one of the most desirable and rare 911s ever produced in all the years since the original was shown at Frankfurt (1963) as the Porsche 901 (a Peugeot-held patent on all three-digit automotive model names with a zero in the centre drove the change to 911).
